A change at the top as MD role sees a new face
Date: 29th Mar 2019
The MAC Surfacing boardroom now has a slightly different look as existing Director Marc Copson takes the reigns.
A familiar name to those who know the history of the company after Marc's Father (Mark Snr) set up the business and guided it through infancy into the national surfacing solution provider it is today.
With family values ingrained in the way the business runs, and Mark Snr now company Chairman, there's now another member of the Copson family at the helm of day to day business.
Having been with the company for 15 years, and full time since 2009, it's clear to see that Marc is very proud to follow in his Father's footsteps.
"MAC Surfacing has been a huge part of my career, and my life" Marc told us.
"There's an element of legacy involved in taking this position that's really quite special for me."
Marc, formerly Finance and Marketing Director, now sees a shift in duties to encompass overall responsibility for the performance of the business, laying down a vision and strategy, providing the structure to reach the vision, as well as looking at past results, performance and experiences and evolving with an ever-changing industry.

Marc added:
"I am now more customer focused, customer facing, and have ideas and ambitions to grow the business further. That being said, we're known for the level of service we provide. So, any eyes on growth will not be coming at the expense of what we already provide."
When we asked Marc about his immediate plans in the new role, we were told:
"In the immediate future, I will be analysing and reviewing our current offering and putting a further emphasis towards increased customer service, offering a personal touch.
"I'm looking to place further emphasis on adding greater value for all of our clients - and will be exploring ways for this to be the case for both existing and new customers.
"I'll also be on a mission to increase our resources and have more focus on the geographical areas across the nation that we hold a strong presence in. This means that we continue to offer a nationwide service, but with that "local feel" at every call."
FIVE THINGS YOU MAY HAVE NEVER KNOWN ABOUT MAC SURFACING
We then asked Marc what a typical day now involves, and with a smile we heard:
"A typical day, what is that?"
Marc elaborated:
"Every day is different, I try to get involved in different areas of the business and support our key team " I aim to challenge our thinking whilst monitoring our current trading activity, and I spend a lot of time visiting customers to support new contracts and ensure all of our customers have a friendly face they see regularly."
Finally, thinking it may be a tough ask, we asked Marc if possible, could he sum up his feelings on his new role in one word?
"Excited!" Marc told us rapidly " without the difficulty we anticipated.
"Excited about making changes, meeting new people every day, providing sustainable employment opportunities and standing out from the competition."
It seems that question wasn't as difficult as we thought.
