Project Overview

During August & September 2022 we worked with Fitzgerald Contractors Ltd to surface a new cycling facility at the rear of Evesham United Football Club. The project involved surfacing thefollowing:

  • Car park extension
  • Learn to Ride Track - constructed with with speed bumps and marked like a road to assist with teaching cyclists the highway code
  • All Ability Cycle Route / Path - a cycle path used to link the different areas together
  • Cycle Track - a 6m wide, 1km long closed circuit encompassing training loops and elevated sections to assist with the technical aspects of race training.

It was imperative that the surface was laid to avery high standard as it would be used bycyclists. This was even more paramount on the 1km cycle track as the cyclists would be travelling at high speeds and any surface irregularity could cause accidents.

As the cycle track contained several loops within its design we had a few sessions debating the best way to lay the track and how the deliveries should be routed to the paver. The working windows were limited, so laying the track in one continuous go was not an option. We fitted extension boxes toour paver in order to lay the 6m track in one pass.

The final surface was highly praised by both British Cycling and members of local cycling clubs who took part in a day to test the quality of the finished product.

This was a different project to those we’re used to working on and it presented some new challenges, but the team seemed to really thrive from them. Here is what Fitzgerald said about the project: https://fitzgerald-uk.com/projects/evesham-cycling-facility
