The choice is not only what the paver costs for the shift. Self-drive can be the more efficient route when your own operator is confident on this class of paver, the programme has room and your team runs this kind of job often. Where any of that is missing, the saving on the hire rate can disappear once labour, supervision and any lost time on the mat are counted.

Delivery and collection are planned around the paver, not treated as an afterthought. Our own low-loaders run on our schedule, and the same in-house workshop that backs our operated fleet stands behind self-drive hire too.

Own low-loader delivery
Transport is planned with the machine so access, arrival time and collection at the end of the hire are clear before it starts. Extensions are agreed the same way, against the facts of the job.

Operator competence and site requirements
Self-drive puts you in control of the labour, sequencing and pace of the work, and that only pays off with the right person in the seat. A capable operator, someone supervising the shift and enough site knowledge to keep the paver productive are what make self-drive work. Without them the machine can be on hire without producing the value you planned for, and on a surfacing programme that can knock into planing, laying, deliveries, traffic management and the trades that follow.
Competence and supervision of your own crew stay your responsibility throughout the hire. Tell us how the site is set up and who is running the shift when you enquire, so we can confirm the machine fits before it is booked.

Who is self-drive paver hire for?+
It is for experienced contractors with a competent paving crew who want to operate the machine themselves. Tell us about the crew and job when you enquire so we can agree the right machine and practical arrangements.
Can I hire a paver short or long term?+
Yes. Hire periods are agreed around the machine, dates and programme. We support short requirements and longer programmes where fleet availability and the job fit.
Can MAC deliver the paver?+
Yes. We run our own low-loaders and agree mobilisation with the hire. Access, delivery timing and collection are confirmed before booking.
What happens if the paver has a problem?+
The machine is backed by our in-house workshop and 24/7 responsiveness. We agree how support will work before the hire so your team knows who to call and what happens next.
Do rollers or other supporting plant come with self-drive hire?+
No. Rollers and Streetmasters are not offered as standalone hire; they accompany the complete surfacing package. If you need a roller on the same job, tell us and we will look at whether a complete package fits better than machine-only self-drive.
What access does the site need?+
It depends on the paver. Transport width, transport length and hopper clearance vary from the mini paver's confined-space footprint up to the standard paver's larger low-loader load. Send your narrowest access and any height restriction when you enquire and we will confirm the machine fits before it is booked.
Can I add an operator or a complete paving team?+
Yes. If self-drive hire is not the right fit, choose operated hire with a MAC driver and screwman or ask us to coordinate a complete surfacing package.
