Project Overview

We were contacted by Ringway at 9am toorganise all resources to plane and resurface a320t patch over 3 lanes of the M5 following anaccident and major fuel spillage.

We resourced a 2m Planer and Crew, Road Sweeper, Tippers, Supervisor, Surfacing Crew, Surfacing Plant, Low Loaders, Water Bowser &Driver, Spray Tanker, Lining & Studding Crewalong with all materials (AC20 HDM Binder &14mm TSCS). We managed to mobilise allresources within 2 hours and were givenaccess to the motorway at 2pm following therecovery of the damaged lorry. We completedplaning and surfacing and handed the site tothe lining crew at around 8pm and reopened alittle after 9pm.

One of the main problems we faced wasthe fact that the emergency came inoutside of normal working hours on aSunday morning. Contacting andorganising resources and sub contractorswas made difficult due to this. However, the On Call Operator, Coordinators andManagement team all pulled together tohave all resources organised within acouple of hours.

No matter the size and scale of the task, the limits on time frames and issues dueto the time of the call out, the teammanaged to pull out all the stops to get themotorway open and running again within12 hours of the initial call. This wasechoed with various testimonials receivedfrom both Ringway and Highways Englandfor our efforts on the day. It is alsotestament to the relationships we havewith our supply chain that enabled us toresource such a large call out in next to notime.
