Road planing and cold milling, correctly resourced

Planer hire here means an operated road planer, also called a cold milling machine, stripping worn layers ready for resurfacing. Widths from 0.35m to 2m, run by our own trained crews, with tippers, sweepers and haulage coordinated around the pass when the programme needs them. Not self-drive. Not a body in a seat.

01

In-house haulage

Own low-loaders and tippers, on our schedule, so the planer and arisings keep moving.

02

24/7 plant workshop

In-house back-up keeps kit cutting. A stalled drum is planned for before it happens.

03

Own planing operators

Trained crews who plane every day, cards held, one accountable team on the pass.

» Before you book

Tell us what needs removing

A road planer removes the existing surface. A paver lays the new asphalt. Start with the size and depth of the removal, then tell us how the machine and tippers can reach the work.

01

Size and depth

Give the approximate length and width, the depth to remove and whether that depth changes across the job.

02

Access and loading

Tell us the narrowest entrance, any height or turning restrictions and whether there is room for the planer to load into tippers.

03

Removed material

Tell us whether the removed material needs loading away, stockpiling on site or leaving for your team. MAC will confirm the tipper plan.

04

Timing and detail

Include the working hours, when the area needs to be ready again, any manholes, drains or edges needing careful work and any drawings or photos you have.

What MAC confirms

We use those details to check which cutting width and planer size fit, how the planer will load into tippers, whether a sweeper or extra wagons are needed and whether the required output needs more than one planer. All MAC planer hire is operated. If you are unsure, tell us what you know and mention any photos or drawings in your enquiry.

Looking for a road planer we do not run today?

Crews often search using an older brand or model name. These guides say plainly whether we still operate it and identify the current MAC machine class that covers the same work. They are comparison guides, not claims that the old machine is in our fleet.

Frequently asked questions

What is planer hire?+

Planer hire is the supply of a road planer that strips back the worn top layers of a road or car park before resurfacing. At MAC Surfacing we hire planers from 0.35m to 2m wide across the West Midlands, operated by our own trained crews with in-house workshop back-up.

Where do you supply road planers?+

Our core patch is the West Midlands, roughly 60 miles, where we turn around quickest. For larger, longer programmes we deliver nationally. If a job sits at the edge of sensible travel we will say so on day one rather than overstretch the crew and let you down mid-programme.

Is the planing self-delivered, or subcontracted on?+

It is self-delivered. The plant is ours and it is operated by our own trained people, so the planing pass is done by a crew that knows the kit, not a body in the seat. Good planing sets the next trade up to succeed.

What happens if a machine goes down mid-job?+

This is where our in-house workshop earns its place. If something goes down we are set up to repair or swap it quickly rather than wait on an external hire desk, and we hold 24/7 responsiveness to act on it. We plan for the bad day before it happens.

Are your operators properly qualified?+

Yes. Operatives carry the cards the work demands, including CSCS, MPQC, NPORS and NVQ Level 2, with supervisors qualified up to NVQ Level 6, SMSTS and SSSTS. Training is ongoing in-house.

Are you accredited for highways and main-contractor work?+

We hold ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, along with CPA, CHAS, Avetta and Constructionline Gold, and we are an Armed Forces Covenant Gold employer. Delivery is audit-ready and SHEQ-compliant.

Can you supply the tippers and sweepers with the planer?+

Yes. Tippers and sweepers can be supplied as supporting plant around our planing work, so the machine, operators and site movements are coordinated as one package. They are not offered as standalone hire.
