» Why the route holds

Own transport, workshop back-up, experienced people

The hire route only works if the machine turns up and keeps running. MAC owns the low-loaders, runs an in-house workshop and supplies its own trained paving people when you need them.

01

In-house haulage

Own low-loaders, on our schedule, so mobilisation is not waiting on a courier.

02

24/7 plant workshop

In-house back-up keeps kit running. A breakdown is planned for before it happens.

03

Experienced paving people

Driver and screwman who lay every day, supplied through operated hire or a complete surfacing package.

Call 0121 522 2303 to talk through width, tonnage and which route suits the job, or start with the surfacing quantity and machine guide.

» What a tarmac paver is

What is a tarmac paver, and what size do you need?

A tarmac paver, sometimes searched as an asphalt paver or paving machine, is the plant that receives hot asphalt from the wagon, spreads it to width and levels it into a mat. A roller compacts that mat behind it: the paver does not compact on its own. It is also a different machine to a road planer, which removes old or failed surface rather than laying new material. For the fuller version see what a tarmac machine actually covers, or go straight to planer hire if you are removing a surface first.

01

Mini paver

The SUPER 800(i) mini paver covers 0.5 m to 2.2 m, built for footpaths, cycle paths, trenches, indoor work and tight municipal access where a full-size machine will not fit.

02

Midi paver

A midi paver covers 1.8 m to 3.4 m, suited to confined streets, car parks, yards and medium-width resurfacing.

03

Standard paver

The standard, universal-class paver extends from 2.55 m to 5.00 m, for highways, principal roads, roundabouts and large car parks where output matters more than manoeuvrability.

The right class comes down to access and the job rather than preference: how tight the site is, whether wagons can keep feeding the machine and how wide the finished pave needs to be in one pass. Tell us the site when you enquire and MAC will recommend a class, or start with self-drive paver hire if your crew already knows which machine they want.

» Build the package around the job

Rollers supplied with the complete surfacing package

Rollers follow the paver to compact the asphalt as part of the same operation. MAC matches the roller class to the material, paving width, access and programme, then coordinates the machine, operator and transport with the paver.

Enquire: complete surfacing package
  • Operated paver with our own trained driver and crew
  • Roller selected for the mat, access and production plan
  • Full 8 person surfacing machine team and plant

Rollers and Streetmasters accompany the complete surfacing package. They are not offered as standalone hire.

» Older machine and model searches

Looking for a paver we do not run today?

Crews often search using an older brand or model name. These guides say plainly whether we still operate it and identify the current MAC machine class that covers the same work. They are comparison guides, not claims that the old machine is in our fleet.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hire a paver self-drive or operated?+

Yes. Hire the machine self-drive with your competent crew, operated with our driver and screwman, or as a complete surfacing package with coordinated supporting plant. The machine, dates, delivery and practical arrangements are confirmed around the job.

Will you travel to our site?+

Our core patch is the West Midlands, roughly 60 miles, where we turn around quickest, and we deliver nationally for larger, longer programmes. You get a clear answer up front, not a maybe. If a job sits at the edge of sensible travel we will tell you straight rather than let you down mid-programme.

Is the kit any good, and is it well maintained?+

The plant is ours and it is operated by our own people, so it is looked after like it has to perform tomorrow, because it does. We run an in-house workshop, which means servicing and repairs happen on our schedule, not a third party's.

Do operators come with the paver?+

They can. Operated hire includes our own trained driver and screwman. Self-drive is for experienced contractors with a competent crew. We can also coordinate a complete surfacing package when the programme needs more than the paver.

What happens if a paver breaks down on a live job?+

We are set up to repair or swap quickly through the in-house workshop rather than wait on an external hire desk, backed by 24/7 responsiveness. On a live programme a stalled machine is our problem too, so we plan for it before it happens.

Can you supply a whole crew, or just the machine?+

Either. We can supply the operated paver and crew, add the roller or Streetmaster needed for the job or provide a full 8 person surfacing machine team and plant. Supporting plant is supplied as part of the package, not as standalone hire.

What is a tarmac paver?+

A tarmac paver, also called an asphalt paver or paving machine, is the machine that receives hot asphalt from the wagon, spreads it to width and levels it into a mat ready for compaction. It does not compact the surface itself, a roller does that behind it.

What is the difference between a paver and a road planer?+

A paver lays new asphalt. A road planer removes old or failed surface before new material goes down. Many resurfacing jobs need both, the planer first and then the paver. MAC runs both machines with its own crews.

What size paver do I need?+

It depends on access and the job. Mini pavers suit footpaths, cycle paths and tight municipal access. Midi pavers handle confined streets, car parks and medium-width resurfacing. Standard width pavers suit highways, principal roads and large car parks where output matters more than manoeuvrability. Tell us the site and we will recommend the class.
